SIEMENS Solid Edge Installation and Licensing sesetup ST9 Proprietary. Solid Edge License Manager installs as a 32-bit application, so 32-bit and 64-bit. In the License code field, type the license key number printed inside the the. I have a client that was running ST6 on a machine that was infected and needed to get a fresh install of the computer. We had no image to restore from, so a completely new OS was needed. I figured since the same hardware was being used, the same license would work. However, it did not. So I contacted my re-seller, whom I do not have a maintenance agreement with, and they said that using the same key would not be possible. Since I am not on maintenance, the fee is $155 for generating a new key. The is no budget for a maintenance agreement and paying the fee is definitely the last resort. I was wondering if anyone has run into this problem before, and has found a way to reuse the existing key. Additionally, I was wondering if making a windows system image to restore from would solve this problem in the future. One more thing to note: I copied all the data off the HDD before I wiped it, so I still have all the files. EDIT: I tried to run the old copy from another computer and got a error mentioning flexnet. The client also had an old server with flexnet on it, and I didn't know why. As I understood the license was installed locally. This makes me think that flexnet may possibly be a solution to my problem. What is flex net and what does it have to do with solid edge? MustBeLucky wrote: Im not sure if that is what was being used. Nobody seems to know why flex is running on the server. I'm now more lost than before. Well first it's a Siemens product: So I know you can use FlexLM to host licenses. Flex is a service that has to be running on your system that serves a license file. This license file is generated by a license cutting tool and then setup as a Windows service (typically) that is configured using a utility called LMTOOLS.exe. I work with this app all the time and I typically see people serve these licenses from a server that get's backed up, and the client points to that server to obtain licensing. Your VAR should be able to explain all of this to you. Nothing to be confused about. The solution is simple, you have to get the license re-issued because the hardware ID's have changed. I have accepted the fact that a new key will need to be purchased, but I am surprised my hardware IDs have changed as I am using the same hardware. Not quite sure how that happens. Additionally, I am going to give my VAR a call, as now I don't know if I need a license cut for the machine in question or the server. Correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't using flex solve my problem in the future? If i need to clean install, I simply point the license to the server and I'm good to go? I believe Siemens does offer a floating license option for SE, so maybe you should look into that. I used to work for a company that ran multiple CAD's so I had setup a huge license server that was serving out all kinds of CAD licenses to my users. Siemens Solid Edge CertificationFlex is especially easy to setup and assuming the network is setup with some god-given sense then the clients shouldn't really have any issues accessing the floating license via their clients. Sorry to jump in so late to the conversation, but I hope my input helps! Wrote: I believe Siemens does offer a floating license option for SE, so maybe you should look into that. Trying to avoid this fee in the event of future failures. MustBeLucky wrote: UPDATE: I found out that the license is node-locked. So, we're still not sure what the flex server is for. I asked the VAR about moving to a floating license. They said there are two types. Host-id and dongle. Host-id is linked to the Ethernet adapter's MAC and will run into problems if that needs to be changed. The dongle can be moved wherever whenever, as long as you don't lose it. Upgrading from node-locked will require a maintenance agreement and $1,000. Even with a node locked license, Flex should still be in use if you don't have a dongle.
